Eminem – Berzerk

Eminem

‘Berzerk’ is the first real single from Eminem’s recently announced Marshall Mathers LP 2 (that questionable Survival track for the Call of Duty: Ghost promo is not being associated with the album now). Right off the bat you can tell from the production that this is unlike anything  he’s ever done before. First of all, rock samples. The main backing comes from Billy Squier’s 1981 hit ‘The Stroke’. Another is the “Kick It” hook from the Beastie Boys hit ‘Fight for Your Right’. Both are chopped up mangled creating this ultra-chaotic sound that is absolutely reminiscent if not a tribute to the Beastie Boys. It’s clear that he’s trying to mix it up and “Go for broke” as he says in the hook, and we have to add it’s nice he’s not yelling the entire time. Love that old school high pitched Eminem on both the Slim Shady LP and the Marshall Mathers LP (hell, even Encore) . Have a listen.

The samples come from these tracks:

A quick blast from the past – Eminem murdering The Grammy’s (introduced by Jim Carrey, nice)…

and the Up In Smoke Tour:

Old school Em – come back to us!
